In what looks to be a really bad week for airlines, Skybus Airlines - based in Ohio - announced that they were discontinuing operations on April 4, 2008.

The company is planning on filing for bankruptcy on Monday.

“We deeply regret this decision, and the impact this will have on our employees and their families, our customers, our vendors and other partners, and the communities in which we have been operating,” Michael Hodge, Skybus CEO, said in the press release. “Skybus struggled to overcome the combination of rising jet fuel costs and a slowing economic environment. These two issues proved to be insurmountable for a new carrier.”

Anyone with tickets to fly with Skybus should contact their credit card company to apply for a refund. Skybus began operations in May 2007 and employed approximately 450 people, mainly based in Columbus, Ohio and North Carolina.
