ATA Airlines Files For Bankruptcy - Cancels Flights

April 3, 2008 – 12:29 pm

Another air carrier is about to bite the dust. ATA Airlines just announced that they are shutting down operations and canceling flights.

ATA was once the tenth largest air carrier in America. This is the second time they’ve filed for bankruptcy in three years. They had about 50 flights a day, servicing Hawaii and four west coast cities — Oakland, Los Angeles, Phoenix and Las Vegas.

Around 2,200 employees will lose their jobs with ATA folding. The company said a loss of a key military charter business is one of the reasons they are discontinuing operations.

Other airlines are expected to help assist travelers holding tickets to fly with ATA.
