American Air recently announced that they have chosen AirCell to provide Wi-Fi internet access to passengers when flying over the United States. They will begin testing this service in 2008.
The service will allow passengers to connect via their wi-fi enabled laptop computers, Personal Digital Assistants (PDA’s), Blackberry, iPhone or portable gaming systems to access the net, Email or office network while they are flying.
The service will be enabled in Boeing 767-200’s, which are primarily used for transcontinental flights and will be available while en route over the US.
“We understand that broadband connectivity is important to our business customers and others who want to use their PDAs and laptops for real-time, in-flight broadband communications,” said Dan Garton, Executive Vice President - Marketing for American Airlines. “This is part of our continuing effort to take the lead in enhancing the travel experience for
our customers and meet their evolving needs.”
The cost of the in flight Wi-Fi on American Air will be announced once the service is rolled out.
