Traveling with small children can really make a vacation interesting. Here’s a handful of tips to keep the kids happy when you are traveling away from home.

1. Make sure you have their medications. This is a no brainer. You don’t want to be caught with out medications to treat things like allergies or asthma. It’s also a good idea to carry a small first aid kit with things such as bandages, antiseptics and a thermometer.

2. A few of their favorite things. A child might feel better if he can bring one or two of his favorite things along with him when he travels. This might be a blanket, a pillow, a stuffed animal or other type of toy. Just make sure that you have enough room and it doesn’t cause problems in the car or plane.

3. Snacks. Be sure to have snacks on hand in case your child gets hungry. This could include dry cereal stored in a ziplock bag, raisins, bananas, apples, or a lunchable if you have a cooler available. If your child is REALLY small, make sure you have formula and baby food on hand.

4. Entertainment. If you are going to be waiting at an airport, make sure that you have something for your child to do to stay occupied. Coloring books, a childrens book, games or puzzles should help pass the time and keep your little one occupied.

5. Other supplies. If your child is still in diapers or being potty trained, make sure that you have plenty of diapers on hand, so you don’t run out at an inopportune time. Also be sure that you have baby wipes, facial tissues and anything else that your child might require while traveling.

I hope that these 5 tips for traveling with small children comes in handy the next time you hit the road. If you have any suggestions that you’d like to add, please feel free to add them in the comment section!
