If you’ve ever spent any time at Put-In-Bay, Ohio (one of the Lake Erie islands) you know that the brunt of the entertainment there caters to revelers and boaters, but this year there’s something new on the island.

A new family style amusement park called “Tailfins.” The park will feature go-carts, bumper boats, arcade games, virtual bowling, batting cages and other games. It’s a multimillion dollar project that’s scheduled to open on May 25, 2007.

Construction workers are busy putting together the go-cart track and 8,000-square-foot arcade. The track will be Ohio’s first outdoor electric go-cart area, meaning it should be environmentally friendly with no fumes or large gas bills, she said. Air hockey, crane machines, tickets and prizes are among the items ready for the arcade.

A water balloon game, sport-fishing simulator, pizza and sub shops, and Animal Land, a store where children can build their own stuffed animal and dress it in Put-in-Bay logo clothes, are among other offerings in the complex, she said. The virtual bowling is the first in Ohio and the fifth in the United States, she said.

Tailfins also will include a golf cart-only drive-through pickup window.

The park is located near downtown P-I-B and will be open from Memorial Day to Labor Day and on weekends in September and October.
