Spring Break Heads To The Alabama Gulf Coast
March 6, 2007 – 6:09 amSpring Break used to be something that happened in very few places. But these days Spring Breakers are a much more sophisticated crowd (when it comes to travelling, they still swill beer out of beer bongs), and they’ve extended their reach. They’re even descending on places like the Alabama Gulf Coast.

The annual escape to the South’s sandy resorts begins in early March as universities in northern states take spring recess. A list maintained by merchants shows Indiana and Illinois students are expected to be among the first to arrive. By Easter, long before peak summer season, the tourist industry on the Gulf Coast is expected to ring up millions of dollars in profits. At least that’s the hope for business owners who say the signs of damage from Hurricane Ivan, which hit hard here in 2004, have been cleared away.
One of the main reasons the Gulf Coast in Alabama is becoming so popular is because of the price. Not all college students have rich parents, so budget concious travellers will find the prices they’ll pay in Alabama to be much cheaper than in Florida, California, or any of the traditional Spring Break hotspots.
