ShoeScanner Has Rocky Debut

If you’ve spent anytime traveling, you know what a hassle it is when you have to remove your shoes when you’re going through airport security checkpoints.
Orlando International Airport is testing ShoeScanner to boost membership in their Registered
Traveler program that for $100.00 annually allows frequent flyers to quickly pass through security checkpoints. All persons enrolled in this program must pass a background check.
The ShoeScanner is supposed to allow travelers to walk through a standard type security gate without removing shoes, but on it’s initial run, 28 of the 50 flyers selected to use the device had to take their shoes off anyway.
“It’s a waste of time,” Tracey Grenkoski of Orlando said after spending more than a minute on a ShoeScanner only to be told she had to remove her high-heeled shoes at the checkpoint. “What’s the point of me standing there if I still have to take my shoes off?”
This pilot program is currently only available in Orlando, but it’s being added New York’s Kennedy International and in coming weeks to airports in Indianapolis, San Jose and Cincinnati.
Would you pay extra to speed through airport security?

The TSA has been a thorn in my side since its inception. I really hope this pilot program doesn’t lead anywhere. Traveling by air is so frustrating these days as it is; the uselessness of a less than 50% success rate (where success = not taking off shoes) is laughable.
Thanks for the story - I found it through thumbd.net.
