Never underestimate what it takes to stay on a special diet when you travel. Most people are not on restricted diets, therefore, the average restaurant, hotel, or bed and breakfast will rarely have just the food you need. But as innkeeper of the Admiral Weaver Inn, the only kosher bed-and-breakfast in Rhode Island, Newbury’s job is to ensure her guest’s religious needs are satisfied — whether by making sure that meat and dairy meals are kept separate or by keeping bacon and sausage far away from the house.
Talk about a niche. I’m sure we’ll see more and more places that cater to eating needs, be it for religious or health reasons. It’s amazing just how many eateries don’t offer a salad without chicken, for instance! With millions of people on special diets, this trend is bound to change.
