Hurricanes are always a cause for concern if you’re planning a vacation to Walt Disney World in Orlando.

Until now. Vacations booked through Disney Destinations and Walt Disney Travel Company are adding “hurricane insurance” that will give visitors the flexibility to cancel or reschedule their vacation (without incurring cancellations fees) should a hurricane warning be issued in the Orlando area.

Guests wishing to cancel or reschedule their trip due to hurricane warnings must notify the travel agency within 7 days of their scheduled arrival date to qualify. All monies applied towards accomodations, theme park tickets, eating plans and other Disney products/services will be applied towards the rescheduled vacation.

“If a guest is impacted — or is likely to be impacted — by a hurricane, the last thing we want them to be worrying about is a Disney cancellation or change fee,” said Al Weiss, president of Walt Disney World Resort. “With this policy, our guests don’t have to worry about that. As for the weather, there have been only two days since 1971 when our parks
haven’t opened because of weather concerns.”

Third party services such as airfare, car rental or hotels aren’t covered by this, and any cancellation fees or change fees are the responsibility of the consumer.
