Caribbean vacation - a dream come true

When you live in the “Snow Belt” of the US, as I do, you have a certain sense of what a dream vacation should look like. To me, the fantasy is fulfilled by vacations in the Caribbean, especially at times when it’s cold in Cleveland. In Cleveland at the end of December, you can expect air temperatures of 10-20 degrees Fahrenheit. That contrasts sharply with the 80 degrees you can find in such places as Sosua, Dominican Republic or Montego Bay, Jamaica.

I’m not the only one to have this dream. In many movies, Caribbean vacations serve as archetypical vacation spot that evoke the warmest feelings of having made it. A drink in your hand. You toes in the sand. All you need is a….you get the idea. Picture a normally harried mid-westerner or New Yorker. He’s pitted against a freezing day and stressed out by the demons of big city living. Now picture the same man. He’s lounging in a hammock, the tropical breezes cooling him off as the mid-day Caribbean sun beats down on him. He’s genuinely happy as he gently tans in the sun near flawless white sands.
Well that’s my dream. And it’s one that I try to live out as often as I can. In the future I’ll expand my reach and go further West (the South Pacific I can only imagine must be near perfect). But for now, a short vacation to the Caribbean is quite cost-efficient and pleasing.
