There is nothing worse than having to worry about things back home when you’re supposed to be having a good time on a vacation.
Here are some tips that will help make your next vacation a little more “worry free.”

- 1. If traveling by car, it’s never a bad idea to get it serviced before you leave. Make sure that your tires are properly inflated, and that your oil and other fluids are at recommended levels.
- 2. If you’re going to be gone for an extended period of time, make arrangements with the Post Office to hold your mail or ask a trusted neighbor, friend or another family member to collect it for you while your away. Same thing goes for newspapers.
- 3. Put some of your interior home lights on a timer so to the outside world your home looks occupied. Automated timers are affordable and can be found at retailers like Wal-Mart or Home Depot.
- 4. Don’t forget about your pets! They’ll need to be cared for while your away. Some people turn to reputable boarding kennels to take care of Fido while your away.
- 5. Consider a ‘housesitter.’ If you’d like to eliminate tips 2-4, a housesitter might be a smart option. Depending on the housesitter, they might visit your home once or twice a day and take care of details like picking up your mail, taking care of your pets or taking phone messages. Other housesitters might stay at your house the entire length of time your away. Be sure that your housesitter has important information or a phone number to reach you in case of emergency.
I’m sure that everyone’s biggest worry is their home and belongings, and I hope these 5 tips will help you plan your next “worry free” vacation.
