My thoughts on Sosua by the Sea All Inclusive Resort
May 2, 2006 – 5:45 pmWe stayed at this resort for a relaxing 9 day stay over the holidays.
What we liked about the resort:
- The Location. Sosua by the Sea is situated on 2 pristine beaches, one offering European (topless) sunbathing. The ocean was delightful and it was easy to see the fish
and underwater life with snorkeling equipment. If you needed your hair braided or a necklace made of Lapis Lazuli, local merchants could be found daily on the beach.
Our room was nice enough, as we had a view of the ocean along with the swimming pool. - The Food Sosua by the Sea only has 1 restaurant. They offer 3 meals a day, on the all-inclusive plan. We found salad fixings, rolls, rice, pastas, fresh vegetables, various meat dishes, and desserts on their buffet meals. They had a buffet style BBQ another evening. Other evenings had a small menu that we could choose from. The food was tasty, but got redundant on about the 8th day. They offer reduced rates to people that don’t want the “all inclusive” meal plan.
- Proximity to Local Shopping Local shops are within a short walking distance of the resort. You’ll find all sorts of goods being sold by area shopkeepers. Look for colorful paintings, beautiful handcrafted necklaces, bracelets, and anklets, magnets, keychains, pipas, and clothing, just to name a few. We bought two sculptures made of “petrified wood” (according to the Rastafarian that sold it to us
) We have no actual proof of how petrified it actually is.. LOL..

You’ll find a number of restuarants in the same area to eat “off resort”.
Things that weren’t so hot:
Low water pressure and irregular temps. Good thing we were close to a pool and the ocean. I took sponge baths because there wasn’t enough water pressure to shower.
“Life’s a Beach.. Shower later” was our motto for this trip
The electricity went out a few times during our stay, not a big deal.. who needs electric when you’re in the sun?
Overall I give the Sosua by the Sea a 3 1/2 star out of 5.
The staff was all very friendly and our stay was exactly what we were looking for. A few days in the surf, the sand and the sun.
If you’re looking for an affordable all inclusive in the Dominican Republic, you should consider the Sosua by the Sea Resort. You’ll have a great time and get the chance to meet people from all over the world, not something most people do most days of their life. The DR is someplace you don’t want to miss.
