GPS makes car travel easier
June 12, 2005 – 9:15 amSick of being lost in unfamiliar cities when you are traveling by car?
There is a (somewhat costly) solution to your problem.
GPS.
Short for Global Positioning System, this handy device can give you exact directions to just about any street address. Live Time!
It was around 900.00 dollars, but is well worth the money if you are going to be traveling a lot in a car or RV. Even if you are a delivery person this could come in handy. I’m sure this is already in use for fleets of semis or maybe even rental cars. It tracks your MPH, and estimated arrival time at your destination. A friendly computer woman voice tells you exactly where to go, and if you don’t listen to her, she will recalculate your route.
It also has simple buttons to help you find dining and hotels in whatever area you are in.
You can search by food type. American, Seafood, Mexican, Bagels, Fast Food.. you get the idea.
It makes your search for stuff on the road easier. No more bad directions or bunk information, ever. You can also tweak it so that you don’t use unpaved roads and set other parameters that you want for your travels.
This device is made by Garmin. There is no monthly fee associated with it, just the purchase price. Upgrades are available for it at an additional fee.
They have different models for different needs. Some are handheld units that cater to hikers, mountain bikers and others sports minded people that wander off into mountains and stuff
I give ours a 2 thumbs up and can’t wait for the next road trip. It will be a lot less stressful! No more maps!
