Hamburg’s Oldest Brothel Shuts Down

April 8, 2008 – 1:12 pm

You know global business is changing when a brother can’t make it in Hamburg. For years, lonely travelers visited the Luxor for a bit of naughty companionship. All that has changed now, and the Luxor is closing its’ doors forever.

“It’s time to go,” owner Waltraud Mehrer told Reuters.

“It’s a pity, but business just isn’t what it used to be. We used to have 10 girls working here. Now we only have four.”

The owner blames the wide availability of internet porn for the decline in the popularity of the Luxor. Men no longer pay hookers when they have mobile access, or at least not in the way they used to.

April 7, 2008 – 12:29 pm

The first sixty days for Clear Pass processed over 20,000 passengers - making travel easier and more efficient for travelers at Denver International Airport.

An application is required to utilize the service. Applicants are pre-screened by the TSA and once accepted into the program a “Clear” card is issued giving exclusive access to Clear’s security gates nationwide. The Clear Card verifies a travelers identity using a fingerprint or iris image.

Denver is a big part of the frenzy. And, the number of cardholders passing through our Clear lanes is proving the value of our service for our members,” Brill added.

This service is perfect for frequent flyers and business people that want to streamline their airport
experience and skip long lines through security.

The Clear Pass is currently being used at 17 other airports including Albany, Cincinnati, Denver, Indianapolis, Jacksonville, LaGuardia (Central Terminal B Checkpoint), Little Rock, New York JFK (Terminals 1, 4 and 7), Newark (Terminal B2), Oakland, Orlando, Reno, San Francisco, San José,

Skybus Airlines Ceases Operations

April 5, 2008 – 10:07 am

In what looks to be a really bad week for airlines, Skybus Airlines - based in Ohio - announced that they were discontinuing operations on April 4, 2008.

The company is planning on filing for bankruptcy on Monday.

“We deeply regret this decision, and the impact this will have on our employees and their families, our customers, our vendors and other partners, and the communities in which we have been operating,” Michael Hodge, Skybus CEO, said in the press release. “Skybus struggled to overcome the combination of rising jet fuel costs and a slowing economic environment. These two issues proved to be insurmountable for a new carrier.”

Anyone with tickets to fly with Skybus should contact their credit card company to apply for a refund. Skybus began operations in May 2007 and employed approximately 450 people, mainly based in Columbus, Ohio and North Carolina.

ATA Airlines Files For Bankruptcy - Cancels Flights

April 3, 2008 – 12:29 pm

Another air carrier is about to bite the dust. ATA Airlines just announced that they are shutting down operations and canceling flights.

ATA was once the tenth largest air carrier in America. This is the second time they’ve filed for bankruptcy in three years. They had about 50 flights a day, servicing Hawaii and four west coast cities — Oakland, Los Angeles, Phoenix and Las Vegas.

Around 2,200 employees will lose their jobs with ATA folding. The company said a loss of a key military charter business is one of the reasons they are discontinuing operations.

Other airlines are expected to help assist travelers holding tickets to fly with ATA.

Aloha Airlines Passenger Services Ending Today

March 31, 2008 – 5:19 am

61 years of flight service is coming to an end for Aloha Airlines based in Hawaii.

The company recently announced that today (March 31, 2008) will be the last day it will be operating its inter-island and transpacific passenger flight operations. Ticketholders for Aloha Airlines flights can either use another carrier or ask their travel agent/credit card company for a full refund.

“This is an incredibly dark day for Hawaii,” said David A. Banmiller, Aloha’s president and chief executive officer. “Despite the groundswell of support from the community and our elected officials, we simply ran out of time to find a qualified buyer or secure continued financing for our passenger business. We had no choice but to take this action.

‘We deeply regret the impact this will have on our dedicated employees who have made Aloha one of the best operating airlines in the country. Aloha Airlines was founded in 1946 to give Hawaii’s people a choice in inter-island air transportation. Unfortunately, unfair competition has
succeeded in driving us out of business, bringing to an end a 61-year-old company with a proud legacy of serving millions of travelers in the true spirit of Aloha.

“We realize that this comes as a devastating disappointment to our frequent flyers and our loyal business partners who have supported this company for many, many years.”

This closing will effect around 1,900 employees. Aloha will continue to operate as usual for their
air cargo and aviation services, while another buyer is sought through US Bankruptcy court.
