Tips for Car Travel

March 8, 2006 – 10:06 am

Here are a few good tips before you start out on a driving vacation..

* Make sure that all of your lights are working correctly. Check headlights, taillights, brake lights and turn signals to avoid getting pulled. No one wants a ticket on their way to their destination.
* Check your oil. Get an oil change if needed.
* Check your tire pressure. Getting a flat tire on the road will add time and expenses to your trip. Cars are also more fuel effecient when tires are at their recommended PSI.
* If you get bored in the car or are travelling with children, be sure to bring a few things to stay entertained. Books, Magazines, a favorite toy, games or
gadgets like an MP3 player, Personal DVD player (if you don’t have one installed in your car) or handheld video games are all good suggestions.
* Carry at least one credit card in the event of an emergency.
* Make sure that you have your car title, driver’s license, and proof of insurance.
* You might want to bring bottled water, and snacks if you’ll be in the car for a long time.
* Be sure that you have accurate directions to your destination. If you use an online mapping service like Yahoo Do a “reality check”. Have a map just in case. Optimally a GPS system is extremely helpful in travelling.
This device is a bit pricey, but with a lifetime of use the cost goes down substantially.

I hope that these tips are helpful for you the next time you embark on a driving vacation.. Enjoy the scenery and have a good time!
