Chukka Blue River Tubing Tour
April 15, 2006 – 9:39 amWhen we stayed in Montego Bay, Jamaica we decided to go on the Chukka Blue River Tubing Tour.
The Chukka Blue was about 25 minutes away from our resort. After the bus ride there, we unloaded to an area for everyone to put on a lifejacket and team up for our tubing trip down the Black River.
Our guide was a hard working and intelligent young man that traveled 2 hours each way to get his job. I don’t remember his name, but he had a great knowledge of the jungle that surrounded us. He showed us the traps that were used to catch lobsters, and told us how the bamboo trees grew until they eventually fell over because of their weight. He also said that he and a few other guides traveled the entire length of the Black River and it took almost 3 days, but was a wonderful experience. He didn’t mention anything about running into alligators, so that was good.
Our guide hoped to go to college to become an accountant. He said that he didn’t want to work in “the sun” and I can’t say that I blame him, it was hot in December, I can only imagine what it’s like in August. At the end of the trip we slipped him some “respect” and enjoyed some jerk chicken and a soda.
This was a memorable trip, and comes highly recommended.
If you decide to go on this tour, bring sunscreen, a towel, a waterproof camera and some money for souvenir pictures and a Red Stripe afterward.
Chukka Blue also offers Horseback Riding, Tree Top Tours, and Jungle Tours.
